Schley County School System Hosts Annual Spelling Bee
Schley County Schools held their school system spelling bee on January 11, 2022, at the Schley County Middle High School gym. The three judges from the Kiwanis club of Americus were Herschell Smith, III, Blake Hill, and Judge George Peagler. The Kiwanis Club sponsored Schley County for the spelling bee which is part of the Scripps National Spelling Bee program. The spelling bee includes students from grades 4-8. The grade winners are as follows:
4th grade: Mason Jackson and Kris Patel
5th grade: Gage Norman and Keira Thompson
6th grade: Matteo DeTitta and Olivia Tibbett
7th grade: Bell Royle and Alyssa Thompson
8th grade: Gracie Arrington and Kemorrean Ross
The system winner is 6th grader Matteo DeTitta and the alternate winner is 8th grader Kemorean Ross. Both students were presented with trophies for their winning and the grade level winners were presented medals. These students will represent Schley County in the Region 6 Spelling Bee on February 26th and the region winner will move on to compete in the state spelling bee on March 18th. The National finals will be held in Washington, DC in June.
