THE SCHLEY COUNTY WIDCATS WON their semi-final matchup against Johnson County last night! This means they will be traveling to Atlanta to play for the State Championship at Center Parc Stadium, Thursday, December 8th. As this is a first-ever state football championship game for our entire community, we will be releasing all students at noon Thursday so that all students, faculty, and staff may have the opportunity to travel to the game. The scheduled game time is 5:00, however, there are three games preceding our game. This could mean a later actual start time. Because of the expected late return Thursday night into Friday morning, we will not hold in person classes on Friday. Friday will be an asynchronous learning day. Lessons and activities will be provided to students to complete at their own pacing by Monday.
Please join us in supporting our players, cheerleaders, and band in Atlanta this Thursday! Go Wildcats!

Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) The ACP is an FCC benefit program that provides support for households on their internet costs. Please see https://www.fcc.gov/acp for more information. There are many ways to be eligible, but one way is if a child participates in the free and reduced-price meals.

See flyer for details! 🎅🏻

The community is invited to hear our Kindergarten carolers as they sing downtown in the park December 9!

We are proud to announce that Mrs. Young was named a Champion for Education at the Chattahoochee-Flint RESA recognition luncheon today! Thank you for all you do to support our students and their families!

First and third grade students are scheduled to participate in Vision and Hearing Screenings at Schley County Elementary School on November 17, 2022. The vision and hearing screenings will be performed by certified screeners from Prevent Blindness Georgia’s Star Pupil’s: Healthy Eyes for Healthy Futures program and trained school district staff.
VISION SCREENING
The purpose of the screening is to identify children who have, or may be at risk for, vision problems and need a comprehensive eye exam by an eye doctor. The screening is NOT a diagnosis.
Vision problems are the leading handicap of childhood; yet most vision problems go undetected because they are not obvious to children or their parents. These problems can result in permanent vision loss if left untreated and may impact the child’s ability to learn, athletic performance, and self-esteem. However, early detection and treatment can, in many cases, restore normal vision.
HEARING SCREENING
Hearing is important for speech and language development, reading, learning, and social interactions. Even mild hearing losses or hearing loss only in one ear may interfere with academics. Children with undiagnosed hearing loss may appear to have poor attention or other learning problems. Hearing can change between screenings and hearing loss can be related to medical problems.
You will receive an initial letter sent home with your child if he/she DOES NOT PASS their vision and/or hearing screening(s), as well as follow-up communication from the screening staff regarding the results and recommendations for further evaluation.
If you do not wish for your child to participate in these screenings, please contact Mrs. Jamie Sellars at 229.937.2405.

Mrs. Law's third grade class conducted an experiment using Hershey Kisses. Students made a hypothesis to see how body heat would affect the kisses when holding them in their hands. They recorded their responses and then enjoyed eating their kisses!

Fourth grade would like to congratulate Asenath for earning 100 medals in IXL! 🏅👏🏻

Please be aware that no school in Schley County has been or is currently under any kind of lockdown. We are aware that Sumter County schools had an incident that has now been resolved.
If at anytime, there is any kind of notification that you need to be aware of, we will post on our website and official Facebook pages.

Mrs. Harmon’s class has enjoyed hosting a student teacher from GSW this week! We can’t wait until Miss Barrow returns for two weeks mid-October!

Don't forget...

Let's show our spirit this week at SCE! Thursday, dress in your wildcat gear to show our support to the Wildcats (whose game has been moved to Thursday). Friday, wear your NEON colors!
