A big thanks to all the parents for their patience today at car riders, our staff for getting students safely to their rides/buses, and to our bus drivers for getting our students home safely in adverse conditions. A great job all the way around!
As we continue to monitor the current weather moving through our area, we anticipate a delayed dismissal for our buses beginning their afternoon routes. Current radar projections show a band of thunderstorms reaching us at our usual dismissal time. After this time it does look much lighter with only lingering precipitation. However, we will continue with car riders as scheduled. We ask for your patience at student pick up because it will no doubt be slowed as well. In addition, all after school activities are canceled for today. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we try to get everyone home safely.
Attention Parents and Guardians:
Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will take the Georgia Milestones test the week of April 13 – 17. We ask that our students get plenty of rest and are as free of distractions as possible so that they can show this test who is boss! Thanks for your help!
SCE will host our Honor's Day program January 17, which is this Friday. We look forward to seeing you there, and recognizing our students' success!

In efforts to reinforce learned concepts in Science and Social Studies, students in Mrs. Waller's 3rd grade class participated in multiple hands-on opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge. In efforts to retain information throughout a Fossil unit in Science, students collected leaves around the school, and made trace fossils. Students were also provided the opportunity to become paleontologists for a day. They were given toothpicks to use as tools. Then they were required to extract as many fossils as possible during a given time frame without breaking them. Throughout the activity, students realized extraction takes patience and ease in order to keep both your tool and fossil intact. Finally, students were assigned a Native American region. They were required to create a diorama that accurately portrayed the region. It was required to include examples of shelter, food, and other characteristics of the region. Students thoroughly enjoyed participating in the various activities.
We hope that all students, parents, and guardians had a wonderful break! Our faculty and staff are looking forward to seeing our students on Monday as we begin the second semester of school!

3rd grade students in Mrs. Waller's class just completed a Rocks and Minerals Science unit. To reinforce what was learned throughout the unit, students created the three types of rocks using Starburst candy. Students began by stacking three Starbursts together forming layers, or Sedimentary rock. Afterwards, students covered the layers in tinfoil and applied pressure which changed the shape and created a Metamorphic rock. Finally, students placed their rocks in a toaster oven. Once the rocks melted and cooled, they were able to see an example of what an Igneous rock looks like. Students enjoyed seeing the transformations of the different types of rocks and identifying the changes that occurred to their candy.
