SCE students are continuing their learning at home, and teachers are staying connected to them in various ways! These students were showing their teacher 3 ways to make the number “417” in honor of St. Patrick’s Day! Others read St. Patrick’s Day books, followed leprechaun directed drawings, and went on scavenger hunts and charted their findings! We ❤️ our students and families!
Schley County School System:
Beginning Wednesday, March 18, 2020, meals will be prepared for children between the ages of 2 and 18. A lunch and snack will be distributed in a “drive-through format” at the bus unloading awning of the high school. We ask that everyone enter the main drive and continue straight past the elementary school gym entrance and continue around to the left (circling the open teachers’ parking lot). Per USDA, the child must be present in the car to receive a meal. Any child between the age of 2 and 18 may receive a meal.

SCE students are extending their learning at home this week with enrichment resources from their teachers. Second grade student, Ethan Culp, followed his teacher’s directions to design, construct, and decorate a paper airplane and then test it by measuring how far it flew 3 times! Way to go, Ethan and Mrs. Mailhot!
Please check your teacher’s Web page by clicking on Menu>Teacher Pages to see what fun learning activities they’ve posted!
We miss our students and hope they’re staying safe and well!

Dear Parents and Community Members,
Schley County Schools have been in close contact with our local health department and our local emergency response team members. In addition to CDC guidance, we will continue to take the necessary steps to disinfect our school and transportation areas.
Yesterday, Governor Kemp asked schools to consider closing for 14 calendar days to limit the spread of Covid-19. While there are no confirmed cases in Schley County at this time, there are cases in nearby counties. Out of concern for our students’ well-being and to limit exposure, all schools will be closed from March 16 through March 27.
All buildings and buses will be disinfected using our Ecovasive system. We would ask that all jackets, backpacks, and school items that travel from home to school be cleaned as well. All 1:1 devices were sent home with chargers to facilitate any at-home learning opportunities. All teacher pages will have relevant guidance, as well as a posting from your child’s teacher for accessible hours each day.
This type of event is unchartered territory for our country and our community. I greatly appreciate the support we receive at all times, but I truly am thankful for the resources we have here. Please take the necessary precautions for your children, yourselves, and your community. Avoid large group gatherings at all costs so that this loss of instruction time will not be in vain. I pray for everyone’s health and safety during this uncertain time. Sincerely, Brian Hall Superintendent
Picture day is Wednesday!
Baseball t-shirt order forms are due Friday, 3/6!
We participated in an informational meeting this morning concerning the Covid-19 virus as well as other common illnesses. Be assured that SCE, SCMHS, & the Schley County School System is taking precautions in order to help prevent the spread of illness. Some of these precautions include the following: Hand sanitizer dispensers on buses, disinfecting of buses, repeated disinfecting of common surfaces in the classrooms/building, and we are monitoring daily absence trends.
SCE could use your help! If your child has a temp of 100 or more, please keep them home. They must be fever free for 24 hours before they can come to school. Don't forget to provide a doctor's note for the excuse. If your child runs a fever at school, they will be sent home so that they can get the medical treatment needed for a smooth recovery and return to school.
Thank you for your support as we strive to keep our students well while they are at school.
Our cookie dough fundraiser begins today and will end March 13th! See your favorite Elementary School Wildcat for ordering details!
During the past few weeks in science, Mrs. Dukes’ 4th grade students have learned about sound and communication. One element of this objective is that students will be able to understand how everyday objects vibrate to produce sound. Students were given the assignment to create their own musical instruments using items they could recycle from home. Students presented and demonstrated their musical instruments to their class. What a fun way to incorporate science in multiple ways!
America! These are projects that students recently completed for President’s Day.
Reminder for those that are participating, the after school program begins tomorrow. If your student is a bus rider, there will be three buses transporting students home. Please be patient as we are going to get your students home as quickly, but SAFELY as possible.
Mrs. Morrow's students had plenty of fun learning about polygons. Her students used different shapes to make their own polygon creations. Afterwards, they counted how many of each type of polygon they used in their creations. Students had a blast practicing the different shapes.
Don’t forget that we will have pictures on Monday February 24th. We look forward to seeing some sharp dressed students!

The Senior Center was rockin’ tonight! Great job Second Grade!!!!
3rd graders in Mrs. Waller's classroom have been studying animal adaptations in Science. After reading "What If You Had Animal Eyes", students chose an animal and took notes on the eyes being used as an adaptation. Students then conducted research using books off EPIC which is an online library of book collections and videos. To integrate writing, students collected information on the animal's habitat, their diet, and interesting facts about the animal. To tie all parts of the research together, students then accessed Book Creator from their individual laptops and created their own book. Everyone enjoyed making their books unique and sharing with their peers.
Second Grade invites you to join them Tuesday night at 6:00 in the Elementary School gym for their program, “Off their Rockers.” It’s sure to be a rocking good time!
