SCE is supporting our local front line health care workers by 3D printing surgical face mask extenders. Having to wear masks all day tends to aggravate the ears, and wearing an extender relieves the pull of the elastic on one’s ears. SCE loves and appreciates each of our health care workers!
Our 3D printer is a part of our technology and robotics program. Mrs. Jones is challenging her “Tinkercad” students to create an even better extender!

We will continue with our distance learning tomorrow. Packets are available for those parents/students that have previously contacted their teacher due to lack of internet access. The packets are for those students only. We highly encourage any and all assignments to be completed online as much as feasibly possible.
The packets will be distributed every Friday in grade level labeled bins. The packet pick up location will be on the ramp by the pre-k doors on the car rider side of the ES. For work submission, there will be labeled grade level bins near the car rider entrance doors. If at all possible, we encourage you to take a picture of the work and submit it to your child’s teacher via email or other messaging platforms. Packets will be collected every Wednesday and Friday.
Again, these packets are for students that have been having internet access issues. There are not enough packets for every student. If you are having internet access issues, please contact your child’s teacher.

It has been a sad and historic day for our State and our County. As many of you already know, Governor Kemp has issued a directive for schools to remain closed for the rest of the academic year. I am disappointed that we didn’t get to finish what we started as a student body and as a faculty. Our students, our faculty, and our staff showed tremendous grit and determination this year. I was looking forward to the strong finish that we were poised to have in May. It almost feels like a “loss” that we didn’t get a chance to finish the "game". Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant once said, “Losing doesn’t make me want to quit. It makes me want to fight that much harder.”
Students, you still have a lot to fight for!!! Fight to maintain the progress that you have made this year! Our teachers are working hard to make sure that you stay “in shape” these last few weeks. You can do so by completing your online assignments, following the guidance of your parents, reading daily, practicing math facts, and having fun learning something new each day. Champions aren't satisfied with getting to the top; that is the easy part. Champions are the ones who fight to stay on top!
I challenge each of you to keep fighting the fight, stay safe, and stay "in shape." Coach John Wooden said it best, “Things turn out best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out.”
Things definitely didn't turn out the way we expected this year, but we ARE going to make the best of this situation. Keep working hard and stay safe. I look forward to the time when we will be back together.

Thank each of you for your patience with our pictures and cookie dough fundraiser. I have emailed both companies and I am waiting on a response as to how goods will be delivered. We will be processing all cookie dough orders on Monday. It should take a few weeks for the product to arrive. You will all be updated as soon as more information is known. Again, thank you all for your patience during these uncertain times.
Schley County Schools will stay closed for the remainder of this school year per the Governor's executive order. Distance learning plans will continue starting Monday. We will notify you as more information comes available.
We are not only proud of our SCE students and their families, we are super proud of our teachers and how they always rise to the occasion! We have some of the best! Mrs Howell, an SCE 3rd grade teacher, did “drive by” visits with her students today! She held a sign out of her window saying, “We miss you!” ❤️ Thank you for going the extra mile, Mrs. Howell!
Per executive order, all Georgia schools will be closed for in person instruction through April 24th. Any further determinations for the remainder of the school year will be made before April 24th. The governor will give a state address at 8:00 tonight.

These first graders celebrated the first day of Spring at home by drawing a spring animal and writing 3 facts!
There have been a few questions about our cookie dough fundraiser. The online portion of our fundraiser has been extended until 4/3/2020 to help reach our goal. Parents can register at http://www.shopfund.com Please share this with family and friends.This extension will delay the shipment of our orders, but we want to make sure everyone has a chance to support the school. SCE students are continuing their learning at home, and teachers are staying connected to them in various ways! These students were showing their teacher 3 ways to make the number “417” in honor of St. Patrick’s Day! Others read St. Patrick’s Day books, followed leprechaun directed drawings, and went on scavenger hunts and charted their findings! We ❤️ our students and families!
Schley County School System:
Beginning Wednesday, March 18, 2020, meals will be prepared for children between the ages of 2 and 18. A lunch and snack will be distributed in a “drive-through format” at the bus unloading awning of the high school. We ask that everyone enter the main drive and continue straight past the elementary school gym entrance and continue around to the left (circling the open teachers’ parking lot). Per USDA, the child must be present in the car to receive a meal. Any child between the age of 2 and 18 may receive a meal.

SCE students are extending their learning at home this week with enrichment resources from their teachers. Second grade student, Ethan Culp, followed his teacher’s directions to design, construct, and decorate a paper airplane and then test it by measuring how far it flew 3 times! Way to go, Ethan and Mrs. Mailhot!
