For the past five weeks, students in Mrs. Waller’s 3rd grade class have been conducting a novel study over Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo. During the study, students have expanded their knowledge on narrative writing, character traits, figurative language, and how a character changes. Students have also made connections between the main character and themselves.
At the end of the novel, students were able to watch the movie to make comparisons. The movie wasn’t the only treat!! Students also snacked on party foods mentioned in the novel such as: peanut butter sandwiches, pickles, lozenges, and “Dump Punch”. We can’t wait to read our next novel.
