Our kindergarteners have been working hard to learn sight words this year. Our 'Rainbow Readers' have read at least half of our kindergarten words toward our end of the year goal of 100 sight words read. They earned their name being added to the rainbow, a certificate, and extra recess. Way to go readers!

THE SCHLEY COUNTY WIDCATS WON their semi-final matchup against Johnson County last night! This means they will be traveling to Atlanta to play for the State Championship at Center Parc Stadium, Thursday, December 8th. As this is a first-ever state football championship game for our entire community, we will be releasing all students at noon Thursday so that all students, faculty, and staff may have the opportunity to travel to the game. The scheduled game time is 5:00, however, there are three games preceding our game. This could mean a later actual start time. Because of the expected late return Thursday night into Friday morning, we will not hold in person classes on Friday. Friday will be an asynchronous learning day. Lessons and activities will be provided to students to complete at their own pacing by Monday.
Please join us in supporting our players, cheerleaders, and band in Atlanta this Thursday! Go Wildcats!

Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) The ACP is an FCC benefit program that provides support for households on their internet costs. Please see
https://www.fcc.gov/acp for more information. There are many ways to be eligible, but one way is if a child participates in the free and reduced-price meals.

First and third grade students are scheduled to participate in Vision and Hearing Screenings at Schley County Elementary School on November 17, 2022. The vision and hearing screenings will be performed by certified screeners from Prevent Blindness Georgia’s Star Pupil’s: Healthy Eyes for Healthy Futures program and trained school district staff.
VISION SCREENING
The purpose of the screening is to identify children who have, or may be at risk for, vision problems and need a comprehensive eye exam by an eye doctor. The screening is NOT a diagnosis.
Vision problems are the leading handicap of childhood; yet most vision problems go undetected because they are not obvious to children or their parents. These problems can result in permanent vision loss if left untreated and may impact the child’s ability to learn, athletic performance, and self-esteem. However, early detection and treatment can, in many cases, restore normal vision.
HEARING SCREENING
Hearing is important for speech and language development, reading, learning, and social interactions. Even mild hearing losses or hearing loss only in one ear may interfere with academics. Children with undiagnosed hearing loss may appear to have poor attention or other learning problems. Hearing can change between screenings and hearing loss can be related to medical problems.
You will receive an initial letter sent home with your child if he/she DOES NOT PASS their vision and/or hearing screening(s), as well as follow-up communication from the screening staff regarding the results and recommendations for further evaluation.
If you do not wish for your child to participate in these screenings, please contact Mrs. Jamie Sellars at 229.937.2405.
